Dr. Rammohan Marla is a Thoracic Surgeon at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA). He joined the hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, in September 2019. “What I enjoy most about CTCA® are the interactions with patients and their families,” says Dr. Marla. “I believe it is essential to get to know them and build a trusting relationship.”

Dr. Marla focuses on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the chest through surgical treatment options. He applies minimally invasive and traditional surgical approaches to diagnose and treat cancerous and noncancerous disorders of the lungs, chest, mediastinum, heart, esophagus and diaphragm.

“My goal is to educate my patients about their disease and prepare them for surgical treatment in a methodical fashion,” says Dr. Marla. “I believe that proper preparation helps patients set expectations and results for recovery and outcomes.”

Board certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery, Dr. Marla earned his medical degree from Rangaraya Medical College in Kakinada, India. He finished residency in general surgery at the University of Connecticut (UConn) School of Medicine in Farmington, Connecticut. Dr. Marla completed residency in thoracic surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He also completed a fellowship in surgical critical care at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut, and another fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. He went on to complete training in cardiovascular surgery at the Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston.

Dr. Marla has previously worked in a variety of health care settings. He was also an instructor of thoracic surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Dr. Marla is a member of many professional organizations, including The Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Cardiology and the Society of Vascular Ultrasound.

Outside of CTCA, Dr. Marla likes spending time with his wife, family and friends. He enjoys biking and watching both his sons play tennis.
