“My goal is to help patients transition out of the hospital and back to their health and their lives,” says Dr. Jong Hyeon Yoo, Hospitalist at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) in Tulsa.

Originally from Korea, Dr. Yoo studied medicine at Hangyang University in Seoul, completing his Bachelor of Medicine (MD) in 1991. He also holds a Master of Science in pharmacology from the same institution.

After serving as a rotating intern at Hangyang University, Dr. Yoo joined Dai Han General Hospital, also in Seoul, as a physician. He then completed a four-year internal medicine residency at Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, part of Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul, serving as chief resident in his final year. Recognized for his dedication early on, Dr. Yoo was named Outstanding Medical Doctor, Best Resident in Emergency Care and Outstanding Physician-Scientist during his residency years. Following this training, he was a clinical fellow in gastroenterology at Gachon Medical School.

Drawn to the laboratory, Dr. Yoo came to the United States in 1998 for a research fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, contributing to advances in technical genetics. In 2003, he returned to clinical care as a medical resident with Covenant Hospital at Michigan State University, serving has chief resident during his third year.

In 2006, Dr. Yoo joined a large medical center in Oregon as a hospitalist, and has been bringing his experience and skills to patients’ bedsides ever since. He moved to Oklahoma in 2008 and joined CTCA® in July 2015. 

At CTCA, Dr. Yoo works closely with patients to treat medical issues that may accompany cancer and treatment recovery. Although he specializes in internal medicine, he is also interested in palliative care and gastrointestinal illnesses.

Dr. Yoo is board certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a member of the American Society of Human Genetics and the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. His research is published in several medical journals, and he has presented his work at national and international professional conferences.

When he is not at CTCA, Dr. Yoo enjoys spending time with his wife and son. He plays tennis and golf, and is involved with his church, including serving on international medical missions.
