In July 2019, Dr. Francis J. Schanne joined Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA), Philadelphia, to serve as Director of Urology. Dr. Schanne works closely with cancer patients and their families to provide personalized, whole-person care to those who have cancers of the prostate, kidney or bladder.

With extensive experience in robotic surgery, Dr. Schanne provides advanced treatments in urologic cancer care using both robotic surgery and systemic treatments like immunotherapy and neo-adjuvant chemotherapy. He takes pride in educating patients, answering their questions, and ensuring they are active participants in the treatment decision-making process. Dr. Schanne believes that patient care should extend well into the survivorship stage of the journey—a fundamental commitment he makes to all those in his care.

“I am inspired by the Mother Standard® of care, the hospital’s mission to provide a patient-centered philosophy to cancer treatment,” says Dr. Schanne. "Many patients benefit from our approach of delivering care via a multidisciplinary team in constant communication with one another.”

Dr. Schanne earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Villanova University in Villanova, Pennsylvania. He has deep roots in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he earned his medical degree at Thomas Jefferson University Sidney Kimmel Medical College and then completed his residency in urology at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Schanne has been among the first urologists to provide several urologic robotic procedures in Delaware, New Jersey and Philadelphia, publishing numerous medical articles on the subject. He previously served as director of robotics in urology at Hahnemann University Hospital.

Outside of CTCA®, Dr. Schanne’s life revolves around his family. He has four grown children and enjoys spending time with his wife. He also likes being outdoors, where he partakes in hiking, rock-climbing, snowboarding and golfing.

Patient ratings
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
