Dr. Farooq Akbar joined Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) in Atlanta, Georgia, in June 2021. Dr. Akbar is dedicated to providing cancer care that is compassionate, evidence-based and patient-focused. He believes in focusing on whole-person care and not just managing the disease.

Dr. Akbar is committed to getting to know his patients, while educating them on their disease and options for treatment. He sees patients with a variety of cancer types. At CTCA®, Dr. Akbar coordinates genomic testing, targeted treatment, immunotherapy, chemotherapy and other treatments into his patients’ care plans.

“My goal is to provide optimal personalized patient care by incorporating each individual’s goals and values into their treatment plan,” says Dr. Akbar. “Together we can determine individualized treatment options and provide them all under one roof.”

Dr. Akbar earned a medical degree from Allama Iqbal Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan. He completed an internal medicine residency at Loyola University Medical Center/ Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital in Maywood, Illinois. Additionally, he completed multiple fellowships in hematology and oncology at the following locations: Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston, West Virginia, MUSC Health University Medical Center in Charleston, South Carolina, Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina, and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington.

Dr. Akbar is board certified as a medical oncologist by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a member of professional medical organizations. Outside of CTCA, Dr. Akbar enjoys spending time with friends and family.

Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers.
