About Me

As a colorectal surgeon at City of Hope Phoenix, Dr. Andrew Kassir performs complex colorectal procedures. He cares for patients with colorectal malignancies, ranging from the earliest to advanced stages of disease. Joining City of Hope in August 2021, Dr. Kassir incorporates whole-person components of health and well-being into the process of fighting cancer.

At City of Hope, Dr. Kassir focuses on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the large intestine through surgical treatment options. Dedicated to using the most advanced treatment options, Dr. Kassir incorporates robotic and minimally invasive techniques for colorectal diseases, as well as new technology and interventions. “Using minimally invasive surgical technologies, I strive to reduce surgical complications and speed recovery, where possible,” he notes.

“I believe that the better I get to know my patients and the more I empower them with information about their treatment and cancer, the more likely we are to achieve a successful outcome,” adds Dr. Kassir. “In the end, I strive to have strong relationships with my patients, built on trust, that can only be earned by truly caring.”

Originally from Edinburgh, Scotland, Dr. Kassir completed his medical degree at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland. Dr. Kassir then completed a residency in general surgery at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona, where he served as chief resident. He then completed a fellowship in colorectal surgery at the Colon and Rectal Clinic of Orlando in Orlando, Florida.

A dedicated researcher and educator, Dr. Kassir has lectured widely on surgical oncology and has presented work at numerous professional conferences. His original research has been published in several medical journals. Dr. Kassir has been voted by peers as a “Top Doctor” in colon and rectal surgery by PHOENIX magazine for ten years straight. He has worked in a variety of healthcare settings and taught at several medical schools. Dr. Kassir is a member of many professional organizations, including the American College of Surgeons and American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.

Outside of City of Hope, Dr. Kassir enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He is an avid traveler, and his favorite destination is Europe.

Patient ratings
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
