The Department of Medical Oncology at City of Hope® Cancer Center Chicago is staffed by an experienced and compassionate team of cancer professionals with expertise in diagnosing cancer and delivering treatments such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy and hormone therapy personalized to your needs.

Meeting with Chicago cancer doctors

Whether you have cancer symptoms or you're seeking a second opinion, the medical oncology department at City of Hope Cancer Center Chicago will help you gain deeper insight into what is happening with your body and the cancer treatment options available to you.

During your initial visit, you will have the opportunity to meet with various members of your multidisciplinary care team, including your medical oncologist, who will review your diagnosis and medical history, and order additional diagnostic testing and evaluations if necessary.

Developing a cancer treatment plan

At the conclusion of your diagnostic evaluation, your medical oncologist will present you with a cancer treatment plan personalized to your needs. You and your medical oncologist will discuss the treatments available for your type and stage of cancer, and determine which options are appropriate for you.

If chemotherapy is part of your treatment plan, your medical oncologist will coordinate your dosage and schedule. You may receive chemotherapy alone, or in combination with other treatment modalities such as targeted therapies, surgery and/or radiation therapy.

Throughout your care, your medical oncologist will work closely with you to monitor your chemotherapy regimen to gauge your progress and help reduce chemotherapy side effects and toxicity.

Personalized cancer care in Chicago

Our unique model of care at City of Hope Chicago brings together, all under one roof, a dedicated team of cancer experts whose focus is on treating cancer. Your medical oncologist will lead your care team and communicate with the other team members on an ongoing basis.

Your Chicago oncologist will monitor the progress of your treatment and work closely with supportive care clinicians to improve your quality of life and help reduce treatment-related side effects such as gastrointestinal symptoms, fatigueinsomnia and neuropathy. The team works together, collaborating regularly, to help you stay on track with your treatments, stay active and maintain your quality of life.

Throughout your treatment, you’ll undergo diagnostic imaging and lab tests to help your medical oncologist follow the progress of your treatment and to make adjustments as necessary.
