About Me

A behavioral health therapist with City of Hope Atlanta, Diane Schaab, MS, LPC began her career working as a teacher. However, her strong desire to help others led her to volunteer her time at City of Hope Chicago. Having lost a family member to cancer, Schaab felt a strong connection to working with the patients and caregivers there.

"I wanted to provide these patients the support that my mother unfortunately didn’t receive when she went through treatment at another facility," says Schaab, who felt very at home and fulfilled while volunteering. As soon as she saw the opportunity to move to Georgia to work with City of Hope on a full-time basis at our Atlanta hospital, Schaab jumped at the chance.

Schaab earned a MSEd in school counseling from Northern Illinois University, and a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from University of Wisconsin, Madison. Prior to joining City of Hope, she worked as a math teacher and as an agency counselor, where she proved individual and group counseling for adult and adolescent victims of domestic violence.

At City of Hope Atlanta, Schaab leads individual and group counseling sessions, run support groups, and conduct relaxation and guided imagery sessions.

"Our focus is on the emotional impact cancer has on a patient and their loved ones," says Schaab of her role as a behavioral health therapist. "Emotions have a strong influence on the healing process and the immune system, and that’s why we’re here to help."

Joining Schaab in Atlanta is her husband, son and daughter. In her free time, Schaab enjoys being active, whether it’s hiking, biking, swimming or any other activity that allow her to spend time outdoors.

Patient ratings
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
