Video: How does immunotherapy work?

Immunotherapy
Immunotherapy drugs are designed to help the body's immune cells better recognize and attack cancer.

Cancer cells often flourish in the body because they have multiple ways to shut off, evade or overpower the immune system. And because cancer cells are the body’s own cells that have mutated or been damaged, they are not always recognized by the immune system as being harmful.

Immunotherapy is an exciting area of cancer treatment that helps the body's immune system to better recognize and attack cancer cells. In this video, Bruce Gershenhorn, MD, Medical Oncologist at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA), Chicago, explains how immunotherapy is designed to strip away cancer cells' disguise and expose them to the body's immune system.
